What does TSRGD relate to?
The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 prescribe the design and conditions of use of traffic signs on or near roads in England, Scotland and Wales. Find out more here – https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/traffic-signs-regulations-and-general-directions-2016-an-overview
What is CE Marking?
CE Marking is a self-certification scheme to show that the manufacturer has checked their products meet with relevant European safety, health or environmental requirements as indicated in the applicable European product directives and regulations. You can find out more here – https://www.gov.uk/guidance/ce-marking
When do I need to use a CE Certified sign?
CE marking is required for many products including signs used in certain environments, such as public highways. Every permanent road sign installed on any public highway must be CE Certified. Note: on private land there is no legal requirement.
Does BS EN 12899 apply to temporary road signs?
No, it only applies to “fixed, vertical road traffic signs’. Temporary road signs and signs such as VMS fall under the scope of other standards.
What different traffic signs are there?
There are traffic signs giving orders, warning signs, direction signs, information signs and roadwork signs.
Can Standard Signs provide all the different roadway signage?
Yes, we can provide the full range of road signs – red, blue, green, brown – and more as we also do street signs, health & safety signage and bespoke sign solutions.
What are triangular road signs used for?
Triangular road signs are warning signs that advise road users of upcoming potential hazards or changes in the road layout such as T-junctions, staggered junctions, crossroads, roundabouts, narrowing road, bridge ahead etc.
What do red circle traffic signs relate to?
Signs that use a red circle are mainly prohibitive so relate to speed limits, limited or no access for certain types of vehicle, no-overtaking, height and weight restrictions, no turning etc.
What do blue traffic signs mean?
Blue traffic signs provide information such as parking areas, service areas, mini roundabouts etc., or instructions such as left/right turns. You also find blue motorway signs used for ‘driver location signs’ as well as directional signage.
Why are motorway signs blue?
The blue (non-reflective) background appears black at night and the white reflective lettering stands out against it making them easier for drivers to read,
When are brown signs used?
Brown signage indicates the route to a tourist attraction.
